The cursed emoji meme is a series of images featuring a particular emoji that is considered to be bad luck. Why? As with any superstition, there’s no one answer to this question. Some say that the emoji is bad luck because it’s often used in conjunction with unfortunate events (like accidents and natural disasters). Others claim that the emoji is jinxed because of its resemblance to the Japanese kanji for “death.”
Regardless of the reasoning, many people believe that using this emoji is an invitation for bad luck. And as with any good superstition, it’s been given it’s own hashtag on social media: #cursedemoji.
The cursed emoji meme started back in 2016 on social media. At some point, someone on the internet realized that if you type out a certain string of characters in an iOS messaging app, it would cause a glitch that would replace the emoji with a pile of poop.
The glitch was first discovered on Twitter, where people started tweeting screenshots of the poop emoji in conversations with their friends. It wasn’t long before people started using the glitch to trolling purposes.
Some people believe that the memes are a way of communicating with the devil, and that using them will summons him. Others believe that the memes are a warning not to use certain emojis, as they are believed to be cursed. No one is really sure where the cursed emoji meme originated from, but it’s definitely caught on with internet users all over the world.
